ATLANTA – A railroad conductor and engineer from Fitzgerald is transporting a quarter-million-dollar Georgia Lottery win. Bobby Cobb Sr., 54, matched the first five winning numbers in the Sept. 8 Mega Millions drawing and won the game's $250,000 second prize.
"I was in total shock," said Cobb, who claimed his winnings Friday at the Georgia Lottery's Tifton district office.
Taylor's Food Mart, located at 316 N. Merrimac Drive in Fitzgerald, sold the lucky Quik Pik ticket. Cobb returned to the store to check his ticket and discovered his exciting win.
"I immediately called my wife," he said. "She hasn't quit smiling yet."
Winning numbers for the Sept. 8 Mega Millions drawing were: 4-10-18-28-50 and the Mega Ball was 35.
A father of two, Cobb will use some of his prize to pay bills.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
