ATLANTA – An Albany groom has something to celebrate other than his upcoming wedding. Kenneth Brown, 42, won a $50,000 top prize playing Lucky Times 5, a Georgia Lottery instant game.

Brown, a diesel mechanic, stopped at Roadrunner, 3333 Sylvester Road in Albany, on his way to work and purchased a ticket.

He scratched it while walking out of the store.

"It surprised me," he said. "I went back inside to show the clerk, and she congratulated me."

The glowing groom intends to use the winnings toward his wedding in September.

"I'm glad I hit it," he exclaimed.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
