ATLANTA – A quarter-million dollar lottery win is the latest hire for one military supervisor. Shirley Devlin, a resident of Sharpsburg, matched the first five winning numbers in the Aug. 14 Mega Millions drawing, winning a second prize of $250,000.
"It's hard to believe," said Devlin, a supervisor at Dobbins Air Reserve Base.
Winning numbers from the Aug. 14 Mega Millions drawing were: 8-22-25-33-35 and the Mega Ball was 46. She bought the winning Quik Pik ticket at Newnan One Stop, 1830 Highway 154 in Newnan.
Devlin, 59, found the results on the Georgia Lottery's Web site, and her husband, Ree, double checked the ticket.
"We looked at each other and asked, 'Do you think it's real?' " she recalled.
The couple, who have three adult sons and eight grandchildren, plan to pay bills with the prize.
"Winning makes a big difference," said Devlin, who anticipates retiring next year.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
