ATLANTA – Barbara Brown considers herself a lucky lady. The Buford resident matched all five winning numbers in the Aug. 10 Fantasy 5 drawing and won a $377,489 jackpot prize.
Brown, 74, purchased her winning ticket at Chevron Food Mart, 2655 Highway 23 in Buford. Winning numbers from the Aug. 10 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 9-23-30-33-35. According to Brown, the numbers she jotted on a whim have no significance.
She called the Georgia Lottery's Player Information Hot Line the following day for the results.
"I cried, and I laughed," she said. "I feel good, really good."
Brown said she plans to purchase a new home for herself and her husband, William. The couple have four adult children and 14 grandchildren.
She plays the lottery because of the lottery-funded HOPE Scholarship program.
"Just about all of my grandchildren went to college," she shared.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
