ATLANTA – Alvin Barnette of Dalton has taken a smooth ride toward a half-million dollar prize. The Dalton auto parts salesman played the Georgia Lottery instant game Jumbo Jumbo Bucks and won a $500,000 top prize.
Barnette, 32, gave money to his father, who purchased the winning ticket at Kangaroo Express #3604, 1200 Cleveland Highway in Dalton. He was at home when he revealed the prize.
"I just started shaking," he said. "I was so excited. It was great."
Married 13 years this month to his wife, Amanda, the Barnettes plan to pay off bills.
"I'm going to try to make it grow," he shared. "I'm going to invest all I can and hope for the best, but I'm going to have fun too."
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
