ATLANTA – A Dalton woman has rolled out the red carpet following a Georgia Lottery win. Caroline Thomas, who works in the carpet industry, won a $117,000 top prize playing the instant game Lucky Gold.

She was on her lunch break when she purchased the ticket at Neels Market, 602 Highway 53 S.W. in Calhoun, and scratched it in her car.

"I couldn’t believe it," she said. "I told my boss that I was not coming back to work for the day."

Thomas, 45, plans to buy a new car for her adult son and pay off bills. She has two adult children and one granddaughter.

"I'm very lucky," she exclaimed.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
