ATLANTA – A Rome resident's wish came true with the scratch of Aladdin's Lamp. Larry Ball, 49, played the Georgia Lottery instant game Aladdin's Lamp and won $40,000.

Favorite Market #3606, 2500 Shorter Ave. N.W. in Rome, sold the top prize ticket. Ball was in the store with his wife, Jackie, when he scratched his lucky ticket.

"I was excited," he said. "She was just totally hysterical about it also."

Ball, who works in the retail industry, has five grown children and two grandchildren.

"I plan on buying a new pair of glasses and paying a bill or two," he said.

Ball also hopes to use some of his winnings for travel.

"We may take an extra vacation this year," he shared. "I'd like to go to Gulf Shores, Ala. They have a nice beach area and a state park for camping."

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
